Transcription settings and language selection
Choose language, speaker count, and output format before transcribing.
Every time you upload a file or record a meeting, you can adjust how Klang transcribes it. These settings are available under Advanced in the upload dialog.
Language
Select the spoken language of the recording. Klang supports 17 languages including Swedish, English, Norwegian, Danish, German, French, Spanish, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish, Finnish, Greek, Polish, Russian, and Ukrainian.
The default is Automatic, which detects the language from the audio. If you know the language in advance, selecting it manually gives more accurate results — especially for shorter recordings or content with heavy accents.
The languages available to you depend on your workspace configuration. A workspace admin can adjust which languages appear in the dropdown under workspace settings.
Number of speakers
Set how many people are speaking in the recording. The default is Automatic, which works well for most cases.
Setting the exact number helps when automatic detection struggles — for example, when speakers have similar voices or when there are many participants. You can select anywhere from 1 to 10 speakers.
Output format
Choose between two formats:
- Transcription — Full transcript with speaker labels. Text is grouped into longer segments that break at speaker changes. Best for meetings, interviews, and conversations.
- Subtitles — Shorter timed segments optimized for subtitle display. Best for presentations, lectures, or video content.
Your workspace has a default format that applies to all uploads unless you override it.
Transcribe modes
A transcribe mode is a saved configuration that includes name lists and word lists. These help Klang recognize specific people and terminology during transcription.
- Name lists help identify and correctly spell speaker names
- Word lists teach Klang domain-specific terms, abbreviations, or proper nouns
If your workspace has transcribe modes set up, select one from the dropdown when uploading. If only one mode exists, it is selected automatically.
To create or manage transcribe modes, go to Settings > Transcribe modes.
Where to find these settings
When uploading a file or starting a recording:
- Click Advanced at the bottom of the upload dialog
- Adjust language, speakers, and format as needed
- Select a transcribe mode if available
- Click Upload or Start
The settings you choose apply only to that upload. The next upload uses your workspace defaults again.
